Description And Operation: Generator

2004 Ford Econoline E150, Van Cargo, 4.6 WSECTION Generator
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The generator has an internal voltage regulator that is not repaired separately. A new generator and voltage regulator must be installed as an assembly.

All police interceptor/long wheel base (LWB) taxi applications are equipped with a one-way clutch (OWC) in the generator pulley. The OWC pulley temporarily disengages the generator rotor from the front end accessory drive (FEAD) system during high deceleration rates on the engine, which may increase belt life and decrease belt chirp. A new OWC pulley and generator/voltage regulator must be installed as an assembly.
