Test B: No Communication With Rear Electronics Module (Rem)

1999 Ford Windstar Base, Van Cargo, 3.8 4SECTION Test B: No Communication With Rear Electronics Module (Rem)
NOTE: Ignition switch must be cycled from OFF to RUN position to enable Switched System Power (SSP) feature. Always enable SSP feature before proceeding with test procedures.
  1. Turn ignition off. Remove Central Junction Box (CJB) fuse No. 16 (10-amp). Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and CJB power supply cavity for fuse No. 16. If reading is more than 10 volts, reinstall fuse No. 16 (10-amp) and go to next step. If reading is 10 volts or less, repair appropriate CJB power supply circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Repeat self-test and clear DTC.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect REM 20-pin harness connector C343. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3 (White/Yellow wire). Turn ignition on. If reading is more than 10 volts go to next step. If reading is 10 volts or less, repair White/Yellow wire. Repeat self-test and clear DTC.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect REM harness connectors C341 (22-pin) and C342 (26-pin). Measure resistance in Black wires between ground and REM connector C341 terminal No. 12 and REM connector C342 terminals No. 11,12, 25 and 26 (Black wires). If any value is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire(s). See appropriate wiring diagram in GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Repeat self-test and clear DTC. If all values are less than 5 ohms, go to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - WINDSTAR article.
