Test D: Left Or Right Mirror Is Inoperative With Switch Logic (Non-Heated Mirrors)

1999 Ford Windstar Base, Van Cargo, 3.8 4SECTION Test D: Left Or Right Mirror Is Inoperative With Switch Logic (Non-Heated Mirrors)
  1. Disconnect suspect rear view mirror harness connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage or resistance between ground and specified terminal on rear view mirror harness connector while moving mirror control switch to specified position. See REAR VIEW MIRROR CIRCUIT LOGIC TESTINGΒ  table. If all resistance and voltage measurements are as specified, replace suspect mirror motor. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATIONΒ  . If any resistance or voltage measurement is not as specified, go to next step.
REAR VIEW MIRROR CIRCUIT LOGIC TESTING

Switch Position Wire Color Terminal No. Result
    Driver's Rear View Mirror
    Left Red 1 (1)
    Right Red 1 (2)
    Up Dark Blue/Yellow 2 (1)
    Down Dark Blue/Yellow 2 (2)

    Right/Down Right/Down 3 (1)
    (1) Voltage should be greater than 10 volts.
    (2) Resistance should be less than 5 ohms.
  2. Remove mirror control switch to access harness connector. See MIRROR CONTROL SWITCHΒ  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Do not disconnect switch connector. Backprobing connector, measure voltage or resistance between ground and specified terminal on mirror control switch connector while moving switch to specified position. See REAR VIEW MIRROR CONTROL CIRCUIT LOGIC TESTINGΒ  table. If all resistance and voltage measurements are as specified, repair suspect circuit found in step 1)Β  . If any resistance or voltage measurement is not as specified, replace suspect mirror control switch. See MIRROR CONTROL SWITCHΒ  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
