Instrument Panel - Electronic: Operation: Speedometer/Odometer
The speedometer displays vehicle speed, based on input signals from the transmission-mounted speed sensor. If the odometer has been replaced with a unit showing no mileage, an "S" will appear whenever the instrument cluster is turned on (except in the off-period of prove-out mode). If the odometer cannot read a valid odometer mileage from memory, it will flash the word ERROR as a service alert.

When to See a Mechanic
