Steering Gear: Removal
1997 Ford Crown Victoria Base, 4.6 WSECTION Removal
- Remove stone shield. Disconnect hydraulic lines from steering gear and mark for installation reference. Plug lines and ports to prevent contamination.
- Remove flexible coupling bolts. Turn off air suspension switch (if equipped). Raise and support vehicle. Remove sector shaft nut and lock washer. Discard lock washer. Mark pitman arm and sector shaft for installation reference (if necessary). Using Puller (T64P-3590-F), remove pitman arm.
- Support steering gear and remove gear attaching bolts. Remove flexible coupling clamp bolts. Separate steering gear from coupling and remove from vehicle.
