Speedometer Module: Service and Repair

1996 Ford Aerostar 2WD V6-182 3.0LSECTION Service and Repair
CAUTION: The instrument cluster requires special handling to avoid damaging internal components. The cluster MUST be kept FACE UP or in the in-vehicle position. Leaving the cluster face down may result in a loss of dampening fluid used in the gauges. The lost fluid could stain the cluster face or result in excessive pointer waver.

The only instrument cluster components that are serviceable at the dealership level are:
a. Instrument panel lamp socket and bulb (13B765).
b. Instrument cluster temperature gauge (10883) and oil pressure gauge (9273).
c. Fuel gauge (9280) and voltage indicator gauge (10A835).
d. Instrument cluster gauge amplifier (10E849).
e. Instrument cluster main lens (10887).
f. Instrument cluster mask (10890).

The instrument clusters are serviced as a complete assembly. If the diagnostic procedures result in a determination that any other instrument cluster component is faulty, the complete instrument cluster must be replaced.
a. Speedometer (17255).
b. Instrument cluster printed circuit (10K843).
c. Instrument cluster back plate (10848).
