1994 Ford Aerostar AWD V6-245 4.0LSECTION Service Precautions
The back-up power supply must be disconnected before any air bag component, or steering column equipped with an air bag, is serviced. The air bag system back-up power supply is combined into the diagnostic monitor assembly as a complete assembly to provide deployment power if the battery or battery cables become damaged during an accident. The back-up power supply will deplete its stored energy approximately one minute after the battery is disconnected.
NOTE: Prior to disconnecting battery, record pre-set radio frequencies.
DISARMING
1. Disconnect battery negative, then positive cable.
2. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete its stored energy.
3. Remove air bag module to steering wheel retaining nuts.
4. Disconnect driver side air bag module connector.
5. Connect Rotunda Air Bag Simulator 105-00010, or equivalent, to vehicle harness at top of steering wheel.
6. Connect battery cables.

1. Disconnect battery negative, then positive cable. Wait one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy.
2. Remove air bag simulator from vehicle harness connector at top of steering column.
3. Connect air bag module connector.
4. Install air bag module.
5. Connect battery cables.
NOTE: After the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, abnormal drive conditions may be present while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 or more miles to relearn the strategy.
