Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor
Sensor is located in intake manifold coolant passage at front of most engines. On 2.3L, sensor is mounted on left side of engine, above oil filter. Sensor requires a 5-volt reference signal during engine operation. With sensor disconnected, sensor may be checked by measuring resistance between sensor terminals. For specifications, see SENSOR RANGE CHARTS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. For additional testing information and circuit testing of sensor, see CIRCUIT TEST DA in TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.
