EXHAUST SYSTEM - 2.3L - CATALYTIC CONVERTER INLET PIPE FLANGE RUST
FORD:
1987-94 TEMPO
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1987-94 TOPAZ
ISSUE:
The catalytic converter inlet pipe flange may rust after extensive use.
ACTION:
Install a new stainless steel flange which resists rust. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Remove the two (2) spring and bolt assemblies, Figure 1.
2. Cut and remove the corroded flange, Figure 1.
NOTE:
DO NOT CUT THE CATALYST PIPE OR FLARE.

3. Position the two (2) piece service flange (F33Z-5G233-A) onto the catalyst inlet pipe, Figure 2.
a. Be sure the open side of the flange faces the catalyst.
b. Secure the two (2) 5/16"-18 flange bolts.
4. Secure the catalyst to the inlet pipe with two (2) spring and bolt assemblies, Figure 2. Tighten bolts to 55 N-m.
