Engine Control Module: Description and Operation

1992 Ford F 350 2WD Pickup V8-7.3L DSLSECTION Description and Operation

Powertrain Control Module (PCM):

PURPOSE
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls operation of the E4OD automatic transmission. Input sensors provide information to the PCM, which then controls the actuators which affect transmission operation.

OPERATION
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors inputs from the various input sensors located on or in the engine and transmission. The PCM receives signals from these sensors, makes computations based on these inputs, and regulates the various actuators wich effect transmission operation.

The PCM's calibration assembly contains the information on each vehicle's weight, axle ratio, engine and transmission application. The calibration assembly is an integral part of the PCM and is not replaceable.
