LIGHT TRUCK: 1989-90 BRONCO II
ISSUE: The liftgate trim panel may crack at the upper outboard screw attachment locations. This occurs because of thermal expansion and contraction of the trim panel beneath the screws.
ACTION: Install a new service trim panel, securing the outboard ends with push pins to allow for expansion and contraction. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Remove the cracked trim panel, Figure 1. Remove and save...
^ Three (3) of the existing five screws.
^ All four (4) of the existing plastic push pins.
2. Install the two (2) new push pins supplied with the new trim panel into the trim panel in the upper outer hole locations, Figure 1.
3. Install the four (4) remaining push pins into the new trim panel. Put them at the same original hole locations.
4. Enlarge the two (2) existing screw holes in the liftgate inner panel at the upper outboard attachment locations, Figure 1. Enlarge to 6.6 mm +/- .25 mm.

5. Install the new trim panel.
