Special Field Action 94LO4 - Engine Compartment Spark Plug Service Reminder Label on Certain 1989 through 1991 Model Federal and California 2.3L Dual Spark Plug Engine Equipped Rangers
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
1989 through 1991 model Federal and California Rangers equipped with 2.3L dual spark plug engines and manufactured at the Edison, Louisville and Twin Cities Assembly plants during the 1989 through 1991 model years.
REASONS FOR THIS ACTION:
During in-use vehicle emissions testing it was found that some of the affected Rangers did not have all eight spark plugs replaced as specified for the 30,000 mile maintenance interval.
SERVICE ACTION:
To assure that all eight spark plugs are replaced at the appropriate interval, owners of the affected Rangers will be mailed an engine compartment spark plug service reminder label with instructions for attachment. They will be given the option to have a dealer install the label.
LABEL ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS:
Owners should have the label if they return their trucks for service. When an owner returns without a label, order any required labels through the Vehicle Information and Warning Replacement label program announced in June, 1993.
OASIS:
OASIS will not be activated for this action.
CLAIMS:
Claims will be paid for labor and costs for obtaining a label through the Vehicle Information and Warning Replacement Label program (if any costs are incurred) when owners return for service.

Approximately 26,000 1994 Model California 4.0L engine Explorer and Ranger trucks manufactured at the Edison, Louisville and Twin Cities Assembly Plants from Job # 1 through January 31, 1994.
REASONS FOR THIS ACTION:
Warranty Information Booklets placed in the affected trucks did not include the transducer assembly (base part number -12K073-) in the 7.Year/70,000 Mile warranty listing of emissions related parts. California regulations require manufacturers to furnish this listing with each vehicle.
SERVICE ACTION:
Owners of the affected trucks will be mailed revised pages with instructions to attach the pages over the existing pages in their truck's Warranty Information Booklets.
