Electronic Brake Control Module: Service and Repair

1990 Ford Ranger 4WD L4-140 2.3L SOHCSECTION Service and Repair

COMPUTER MODULE
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. On all models, disconnect wiring harness from RABS module.
3. On Ranger/Bronco II models, remove module to instrument panel retaining screws behind center of instrument panel.
4. On Aerostar models, remove module to instrument panel anti-skid plate retaining screws on lefthand side of engine cover under instrument panel.
5. On E-Series models, remove parking brake actuator assembly as follows:
a. Loosen adjusting nut at equalizer.
b. From inside engine compartment, remove nuts attaching actuator assembly to cowl.
c. From under instrument panel, remove one bolt attaching actuator assembly to lower flange of instrument panel.
d. Remove parking brake cable from actuator assembly by compressing conduit end fitting prongs using a 1/2 inch box wrench.
e. Remove actuator assembly.
6. On all models, remove two module attaching screws, then the module.
7. Reverse procedure to install, then check system for proper operation.
