Steering Gear: Disassembly

- Remove steering gear from vehicle. Rotate pinion shaft from lock to lock, noting number of rotations. Divide by 2 to find "on center" position. Turn pinion shaft to "on center" position.
- White index marks on lower bearing and pinion shaft should now be aligned. Using Yoke and Pinion Plug Wrench (T85T-3504-AH), hold yoke plug in position. Using Yoke and Pinion Lock Nut Wrench (T74P-3504-U), remove yoke lock nut. See Fig 1.
- Using Plug Wrench (T85T-3504-AH), remove yoke plug. Remove spring from yoke. Using snap ring pliers, remove yoke from housing. Remove pinion shaft dust cover.
- Using yoke and pinion plug wrench, hold pinion plug in position. Using yoke and pinion lock nut wrench, remove pinion plug lock nut. Remove pinion and bearing assembly from housing.
