Pcm 3.0L
This procedure is required when one or more of the following situations are true:
- The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has been replaced.
- Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is set that the PCM is not programmed or generic software is detected.
- An updated calibration or software release is available for the PCM.NOTE: Authorized software updates may not require any or all of the learn routines listed in the steps below to be performed. Always follow the procedure in the relevant bulletin when performing an authorized software update.
This procedure assumes that the scan tool is properly configured to the dealership network with either a wired or wireless connection. For help on how to network the scan tool, use the "Help" tab at the top of the diagnostic application.
PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE - Using the scan tool:
- If the PCM is being replaced with a new one, generate a scan report from the original PCM.
- Obtain Authorization PIN which can be accessed by certain dealer personnel from the DealerCONNECT Key Code menu for use later.
- Connect a battery charger to the vehicle to maintain adequate system voltage during the flash update.
- Flash the PCM - If multiple calibrations are available, consult the scan report from the original PCM to determine the correct calibration part number.
- Run Immobilizer Modules Replacement (This can be accessed under Guided Diagnostics from the Activities section in the left margin menu or BCM miscellaneous functions). You will need the PIN obtained in step 2.
- Refer to the table below to determine if a learn procedure should be performed for the component that was removed or replaced. Not all learn procedures are available for all vehicles. If a component listed in the table is replaced and the correlating learn procedure is present in the scan tool, navigate to "Miscellaneous Functions" and perform the learn procedure before verifying repair. Failure to do so may cause the same, or another DTC to set.
Scan Tool Learn Procedures Component replaced or removed: Note: (All available Learn procedures should be performed when a PCM is replaced) Brake Pedal Learn Brake Pedal Position Sensor, Brake Pedal Assembly Cam Crank Relearn (NGC/GPEC Controllers) CKP Sensor, CMP Sensor, Flywheel, Valvetrain components (timing chain, gears, tensioners), Cam Phasers Clear Misfire TLC (Magneti Marelli Controllers) CKP Sensor, CMP Sensor, Flywheel, Valvetrain components (timing chain, gears, tensioners), Cam Phasers Clutch Pedal Learn Clutch Pedal Position Sensor, Clutch Pedal, Clutch Assembly (pressure plate and disc) EGR Valve Replaced EGR Valve Learn ETC Throttle Body Check PCM Odometer PCM Replaced Check PCM VIN PCM Replaced PCM Replaced Routine PCM Replaced Learn Gear Shift Sensor Gear Shift Position Sensor, Transmission Shifter components - Clear any DTCs.
- Road test vehicle to learn Adaptive Numerator.NOTE:
Due to the PCM/TCM programming procedure, a DTC may be set in other ECUs within the vehicle. Some DTCs may cause the MIL to illuminate. From the "Home" screen select "System View". Then select "All DTCs". Press "Clear All Stored DTCs" if there are any DTCs shown on the list.
- Verify that no DTCs have set.

When to See a Mechanic

- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
