Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Theory Of Operation
On vehicles equipped with a Multifunction Tailgate, the Left Tailgate Drop Latch, Right Tailgate Drop Latch, Center Tailgate Swing Latch, and Left Tailgate Swing Latch are each equipped with an integral Ajar Switch, which are hardwired to the Tailgate Control Module. The Tailgate Control Module communicates the Tailgate position to the Body Control Module (BCM), through the LIN Bus circuit.
When the Transmission is in PARK or NEUTRAL and the Tailgate Control Module receives a Tailgate drop down or swing open request, the Tailgate Control Module releases the appropriate Tailgate Latches, allowing the Tailgate to move to the desired position.
