Pan, Oil: Installation
Mopar® Engine RTV must be applied to the 4 T-joints, the area where the front cover, rear retainer and oil pan gasket meet. The bead of RTV should cover the bottom of the gasket. This area is approximately 4.5 mm x 25 mm in each of the 4 T-joint locations.
- Clean the oil pan gasket mating surface of the engine block and oil pan.
- Apply Mopar® Engine RTV at the 4 T- joints (1, 2).NOTE:
When the oil pan is removed a new oil pan gasket and the integral windage tray assembly must be installed, the old gasket cannot be reused.
- Position a new oil pan gasket/windage tray (1) onto the oil pan (3).
- Using a new O-ring, position the oil pump pickup tube (2) into the oil pan.
- Position the oil pan to the engine block while aligning the pickup tube to the oil pump.
- Install the oil pump pickup tube retaining bolt and nut (1) and tighten to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).
- Align the rear of the oil pan with the rear face of the engine block and install the retaining bolts finger tight.
- Using the sequence shown, tighten the retaining bolts to 5 N.m (44 in. lbs.).
- Using the sequence shown, tighten the retaining bolts to 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.).
- Position the oil pan, install the mounting bolts and using the sequence shown, tighten to 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.).CAUTION:
The structural dust cover must be held tightly against both the engine and the transmission bell housing during the tightening sequence. Failure to do so may cause severe damage to the cover.
- Position the structural dust cover (2).
- Install the structural dust cover retaining bolts (1) hand tight.
- Tighten the structural dust cover-to-transmission bolts to 9 N.m (80 in. lbs.).
- Tighten the structural dust cover-to-engine bolts to 9 N.m (80 in. lbs.).
- Retighten the structural dust cover-to-transmission bolts to 54 N.m (40 ft. lbs.).
- Retighten the structural dust cover-to-engine bolts to 54 N.m (40 ft. lbs.).
- Install the transmission line retaining bracket at the oil pan.
- Install the engine oil level indicator tube and tighten the retaining nut to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Position and install the crossmember. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, CRADLE, ENGINE AND SUSPENSION, INSTALLATION .
- Fill the crankcase with specified type and amount of engine oil. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - ENGINE OIL SERVICE .
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
