Rail, Fuel: Installation: 6.4L
The left and right fuel rails are replaced as an assembly. Do not attempt to separate fuel rail halves at connector tube. Due to design of the connector tube, it does not use any clamps. Never attempt to install a clamping device of any kind to the connector tube. When removing fuel rail assembly for any reason, be careful not to bend or kink the connector tube.
The fuel injector O-rings may be used again, provided no cuts, tears, or deformation have occurred.
- If removed, install the fuel injectors onto the fuel rail. Refer to INJECTOR(S), FUEL, INSTALLATIONΒ .
- Inspect the fuel injector O-rings (3) and replace if necessary.
- Clean out the fuel injector machined bores in the intake manifold.
- Apply a small amount of engine oil to each fuel injector O-ring (3).
- Position fuel rail/fuel injector assembly into the machined fuel injector bores of the intake manifold.
- Guide each injector into the intake manifold using care not to tear the fuel injector O-rings.
- Push the right fuel rail down until the fuel injectors have bottomed on shoulders.
- Push the left fuel rail down until the injectors have bottomed on shoulders.
- Using the sequence shown, install the four fuel rail retaining bolts and tighten to 11 N.m (8 ft. lbs.).
- Connect the fuel line to the fuel rail. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - QUICK-CONNECT FITTINGSΒ .
- Connect the fuel injector electrical connectors.
- Connect the PCV hose.
- Install the throttle body electrical connector (2).
- Position the duct (3) onto the throttle body and air cleaner housing (1).
- Tighten the hose clamp at the throttle body and at the air cleaner housing (2) to 5 N.m (45 in. lbs.).
- Connect the electrical connector at the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor (4).
- Install the engine cover (1).
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
