Perform variance with vehicle headed within 45 degrees of directly north or south. Vehicle can be moving or stationary. Ensure compass/temperature is displayed. Turn ignition on. Press US/M and Step buttons for more than 100 milliseconds, but not more than one second. Compass will display VAR and current variance. Within the next five seconds, momentarily depress and release US/M button. Variance zone will be set and normal operation will resume. If display flashes VAR twice before resuming normal operation, new variance was not accepted. Reposition vehicle towards north or south, and repeat procedure.
