Engine Assembly: Removal

1999 Dodge and Ram Viper RT/10SECTION Removal
  1. Disconnect battery. Remove the hood and support from front support. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Drain the cooling system. Remove upper radiator hose and heater hoses from the engine. Remove front crossmember. See Fig 1. Remove accessory drive belt.
  2. Remove power steering pump mounting bolts and set the pump aside. Disconnect the engine electrical connectors and ground cable to the frame. Remove the lower radiator hose. Remove the windshield wipers and cowl panel. Disconnect the battery feed connector and brake booster hose.
  3. Perform fuel pressure release procedure. Disconnect the vacuum lines, evaporative emission harness, fuel lines and accelerator cable. Disconnect the exhaust system at exhaust manifolds. Attach engine lifting hoist. Disconnect the engine and transmission mounts. See Fig 2.
  4. Remove the gear shift lever. Hoist vehicle. Remove the drive shaft and disconnect torque bar from transmission. Remove the transmission's rear support bracket. Remove engine and transmission as an assembly.
