A/C System Performance

1999 Dodge and Ram Caravan Base, 2.4 BSECTION A/C System Performance
  1. Ensure ambient temperature is at least 70°F (21°C). Connect manifold gauge set to A/C system. Connect tachometer to engine. Set controls to recirculation, panel, A/C, full cool and high speed settings. Start and warm engine to operating temperature. Close all doors and windows. Allow engine to idle at 1000 RPM with A/C clutch engaged.
  2. Operate system for 5 minutes to allow system to stabilize. Insert thermometer in left center panel outlet. Compressor clutch may cycle depending on ambient temperature. Record compressor discharge pressure, air temperature at left center panel outlet, and ambient temperature when compressor clutch is engaged.
  3. Compare measurements with A/C SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TEMPERATURE SPECIFICATIONS  and A/C SYSTEM PERFORMANCE PRESSURE SPECIFICATIONS  tables. If measurements are not within specification, correct refrigerant charge or replace components as necessary.
