Air Bag System Diagnostic Module (ASDM)
On all models except Grand Cherokee, ASDM is located behind center console, at center of instrument panel. See Figure and Figure . On Grand Cherokee, ASDM is located under center console near parking brake lever assembly. See Fig 3 . Safing sensor is an integral part of ASDM.
The ASDM monitors critical input and output circuits within the air bag system, making sure they are operating correctly. Some circuits are tested continuously; others are checked only under certain conditions. The ASDM provides information about the air bag system through the AIR BAG warning light and diagnostic connector. A fault code (message) is stored whenever AIR BAG warning light stays on, or if light is activated for 12 seconds or more.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
