1983 Dodge and Ram Rampage Base, AutomaticSECTION Selector in Reverse
- Attach a 300 psi (21 kg/cm2 ) gauge to "low-reverse" port. Operate engine at 1600 RPM for test. Move selector lever on transaxle 4 detents forward from full rearward position (into selector "R" position).
- Low-reverse pressure should read 180-220 psi (12.6-15.4 kg/cm2 ) with throttle lever forward, gradually increasing to 260-300 psi (18.2-21.0 kg/cm2 ) as lever is moved rearward. This tests pump output, pressure regulation, condition of front clutch, and rear servo hydraulic circuits.
- Move selector lever on transaxle to "D" position to check that rear servo pressure drops to zero. This tests for leakage into rear servo, due to case porosity, which can cause reverse band burn out.
