1983 Dodge and Ram Challenger StandardSECTION Removal - Champ
- Disconnect battery ground cable. Disconnect throttle cable at carburetor and manual control cable at transaxle. Remove inhibitor switch connector, cooler hoses and the 4 top engine-to-transaxle mounting bolts.
- Raise vehicle and remove front wheels. Remove under cover and drain transaxle fluid. Remove strut and stabilizer bars from lower control arm. Remove both drive shafts from transaxle case. Remove starter and disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
- Remove converter housing. Remove the 3 special bolts attaching convertor to drive plate. Make sure torque convetor is loose from engine and will come out with transmission.
- Install an engine support. Place transmission jack under transaxle assembly. Remove remaining bolts holding engine-to-transaxle assembly. Remove transaxle mounting bolts. Lower transaxle assembly (with torque convertor) out of vehicle.
