Output Speed Sensor Signal

1999 Chrysler LHSSECTION Output Speed Sensor Signal

Output speed sensor uses a magnetic pick-up coil to generate an AC voltage input signal when trigger teeth on output shaft pass the magnetic pick-up coil. See Figure. The TCM uses input signal to determine output shaft speed. The TCM compares output speed sensor signal against the input speed sensor signal to determine gear ratio and clutch slippage. Output speed sensor signal is also compared to throttle position sensor signal to determine transmission shift points.

Output speed sensor signal is also used for determining vehicle speed. Vehicle speed signal is delivered from TCM to Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM delivers vehicle speed signal on PCI bus data line for use by other vehicle control modules.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • β€’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • β€’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • β€’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • β€’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • β€’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
