Preliminary Procedure

  • Clean the power transfer unit case housing in solvent, air dry. Remove all residual input shaft seal material from the input shaft seal bore.
  • The case halves, internal gears and bearings are not serviceable components. If damage is present, the power transfer unit must be replaced as an assembly.

Inspect for damage to case.

NOTE:
  • Inspect the input shaft seal ID bore for scoring or damage.
  • Inspect the face seal / O-ring seal OD sealing surface for scoring or damage.
3 Power Transfer Unit Case Vent Connector Hole
4 Power Transfer Unit Case Housing Threaded Bolt Holes
NOTE:

Repair any damaged threads.

5 Power Transfer Unit Case Housing Sealing Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for scoring or damage.

6 Power Transfer Unit Case Housing Bearing Races

Inspect for brinnelling or excessive wear.
