Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Installation Procedure
If installing a new front coil spring (1), make a mark using a grease pencil at location (a) on the new front coil spring (1) using the mark on the old front coil spring (1) as a reference.
- If installing a new front coil spring (1), slide the front coil spring insulator (2) onto the new front coil spring (1) up to the mark made at location (a).
Install the CH-52078-2 upper compressor plate (1) and the CH-52078-2 lower compressor plate (2) onto the new coil spring in approximately the same position they were in during removal (measurement (a) in removal step 20).
Make sure the thinner lip of each compressor plate is closest to the outside of the coil spring so the plates have the least offset possible from parallel.
- Install the CH-52078-1 threaded rod assembly, 579454 thrust bearing (not shown), 280962 washer (not shown), and CH-52078-3 drive nut (4).
Compress the new coil spring until the compressed length (b) matches the previously recorded measurement.
Do NOT exceed more than 50 mm (2 in.) of spring compression.
- NOTE:
The flat end of the front coil spring and the front spring insulator goes into the front shock absorber tower and the pointed end of the front coil spring goes on the front lower control arm.
Front Spring Insulator (3) - Install
- Install the front coil spring (2) so that the lower spring end is aligned with and seated in the pocket of the front lower control arm (1).
- Using the jack, raise the front lower control arm (1) into position.
Front Lower Control Arm Bolt (3) - Install [2x]
- Front Lower Control Arm Washer (2) - Install [2x]
- Front Lower Control Arm Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x]
- First Pass: 120 N.m (89 lb ft)
- Final Pass: 165 - 185 degrees
Loosen the CH-52078 Coil Spring Compressor (2) releasing tension on the front coil spring (1).
- Each time the CH-52078 coil spring compressor is used, ALL components MUST be inspected for damage and replaced, as necessary, before storing.
- Each time the CH-52078 coil spring compressor is used, the CH-52078-1 threaded rod assembly MUST be cleaned and lightly lubricated with the 280934 extreme pressure threaded lube before storing.
- Remove the CH-52078 Coil Spring Compressor (2) from the front coil spring (1).
- Remove the jack from underneath the front lower control arm.
- Front Stabilizer Shaft Link - Install - Stabilizer Shaft Replacement
Front Shock Absorber (2) - Install - Shock Absorber Replacement
- Install the front tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Without Dual Rear Wheels)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (With Dual Rear Wheels)
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
