Installation Procedure

2014 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, 2D Convertible, Standard TransSECTION Installation Procedure
  1. If you are replacing the intermediate steering shaft, copy the match marks from the old shaft to the new shaft.
  2. Ensure the tilt and telescope lever is in the locked position with the steering column tilted to the highest position and telescoped to the maximum rearward position.
  3. Position the intermediate steering shaft and intermediate shaft seal assembly in the vehicle on the driver's floor.
  4. Position the intermediate steering shaft in the dash panel opening.

  6. Working under the instrument panel, install the intermediate shaft seal (1) to the dash panel. Apply pressure to the seal in order to engage the 4 tabs.

  8. Working under the instrument panel, align the match marks (4) and connect the intermediate steering shaft (1) to the steering column shaft (3).
  9. Apply thread locking adhesive to the upper intermediate steering shaft bolt (2). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and SealersΒ .
  10. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  11. Install the upper intermediate steering shaft bolt and tighten to 36 N.m (26.5 lb ft).

  13. Working under the vehicle, align the match marks and connect the intermediate steering shaft (1) to the steering gear pinion shaft (3).
  14. Apply thread locking adhesive to the steering gear pinion bolt (2). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and SealersΒ .
  15. Install the steering gear pinion bolt and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  17. Working under the vehicle, ensure the 4 tabs (1) on the intermediate shaft seal engage the dash panel.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
