NOTE:
  • This procedure should be used without existing learned keys being present.
  • A total of eight keys and transmitters in any combination may be learned to a single vehicle. Each separate key and each transmitter counts as one of the eight allowed keys.
  • This procedure will only learn the vehicle transmitter or key information. This procedure will not learn any immobilizer information between the body control module (BCM) and engine control module (ECM).
  • If the battery voltage is low, charge the battery before continuing with the procedure.
  1. With an unlearned master vehicle key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Observe the security indicator, after approximately 10 min the indicator will turn off.
  3. Turn OFF the ignition and wait 5 s.
  4. Repeat steps 1 - 3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30 min.
  5. NOTE:

The body control module learns the key transponder information upon the ignition transition from OFF to ON. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

  6. Start the vehicle. The vehicle has now learned the key transponder information.
  7. Additional keys may be learned using the Adding Keys procedure.
  8. Clear all DTCs.
  9. Verify each key is operating properly by starting the vehicle and locking/unlocking all the vehicle lock cylinders.
