Engine Control Module: Testing and Inspection

Engine Control Module Programming and Setup (LGH or LML)
The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event performed for a complete repair.
ECM Replacement
If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed:
1. Capture the Option data.
Note: Clear any DTCs that may have set after completing the programming procedure.
2. Enable ECM Reprogramming-Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) (Service Programming System (SPS)).
3. Restore the Option data in the new ECM.
4. CKP Variation Learn-Refer to Crankshaft Position Reluctor Wheel Learn (Testing and Inspection).
5. Start and idle vehicle.
6. Using the scan tool, perform the Turbocharger Learn Procedure. Refer to Turbocharger Learn (Testing and Inspection).
7. Perform a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Enable (Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Enable).
8. If necessary, perform the following:
* Theft Deterrent-Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Programming and Setup (Testing and Inspection).
* The Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming-Refer to Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming (Procedures).
* Engine Oil Life Remaining-Use scan tool to reset Engine Oil Life.
* Fuel Filter Life-Use scan tool to reset Fuel Filter Life.
ECM Reprogramming
Note: It is necessary to record Fuel Filter Life before reprogramming. The ECM reprogramming procedure will reset Fuel Filter Life to zero.
1. Record Fuel Filter Life.
Note: Clear any DTCs that may have set after completing the programming procedure.
2. Enable ECM Reprogramming-Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) (Service Programming System (SPS)).
3. Reset Fuel Filter Life to the recorded value.
4. Start and idle vehicle.
5. Using the scan tool, perform the Turbocharger Learn Procedure. Refer to Turbocharger Learn (Testing and Inspection).
6. Perform a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Enable (Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Enable).
7. If necessary, perform the following:
* Theft Deterrent-Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Programming and Setup (Testing and Inspection).
* The Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming-Refer to Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming (Procedures).
* Engine Oil Life Remaining-Use scan tool to reset Engine Oil Life.
Setup for Component Replacement
The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.
If any of the following components are replaced, a Turbocharger Learn Procedure must be performed.
* Turbocharger
* Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor
* Turbocharger Vane Position Control Solenoid Valve
