Circuit/System Testing

2011 Chevrolet Aveo LT, 4D Sedan, AutomaticSECTION Circuit/System Testing
  1. Disconnect the harness connector at the ignition switch.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between B+ circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the B+ circuit fuse is open, test the circuits listed below for a short to ground.
NOTE: To help isolate a short to ground, it may be necessary to disconnect modules that are connected to the following circuits:
    • Ignition terminal 3
    • Ignition terminal 4
    • Ignition terminal 1
    • Ignition terminal 5
  3. Connect the harness connector at the ignition switch.
  4. Ignition OFF, key out, disconnect the A harness connector at the IPC. Verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the ignition circuit terminals listed below and ground:
    • terminal 2
    • terminal 17
    • terminal 18
    • If the test lamp illuminates, test the ignition circuits for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ignition switch.
  5. Ignition in the ACCESSORY position, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the terminal 17 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ignition switch.
  6. Ignition in the CRANK position, verify that a test lamp illuminates between terminal 18 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ignition switch.
  7. If all of the circuits test normal, replace the IPC.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • β€’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • β€’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • β€’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • β€’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • β€’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
