Circuit/System Testing

2010 Chevrolet Chevy Express G3500, Van Passenger ExtendedSECTION Circuit/System Testing
IMPORTANT: When removing connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion to the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector:
  • Vehicle rollover sensor
  • SDM module
  • Vehicle rollover sensor harness connector
  • SDM wiring harness connector
  1. Verify DTC B0090 39 or B0090 71 is not set.
    • If either DTC is set, replace the rollover sensor.
  2. Verify DTC B0090 3A is not set.
    • If the DTC is set, verify the correct part number ROS is installed in the vehicle. If the installed ROS is incorrect, replace the ROS.
  3. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the ROS.
  4. Test for less than 5 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 6 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  5. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  6. Test for less than 1 volt between the signal circuit terminal 5 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage.
  7. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the SDM.
  8. Test for less than 5 ohms between the signal circuit terminal 5 at the ROS harness connector and the signal circuit terminal 58 at the SDM harness connector.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
  9. Ignition ON, test for less than 1 volt between the signal circuit terminal 5 at the ROS harness connector and B+.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
  10. If all circuits test normal, replace the ROS.
  11. Reconnect all SIR components. Ignition ON, verify the DTC is not set as current.
    • If the DTC resets as current, replace the SDM.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • β€’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • β€’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • β€’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • β€’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • β€’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
