Circuit/System Testing

- PPS module
- SDM module
- PPS wiring harness connector
- SDM wiring harness connector
- Ignition ON, verify the PPS illuminates the PPS ON/OFF indicators.
- If the Passenger Air Bag ON/OFF status indicator does not illuminate, refer to Passenger Presence System Indicator Circuit MalfunctionΒ .
- Ignition ON, with the scan tool. Retrieve the DTCs, refer to Passenger Presence System Flash Code Procedures (SS)Β . Verify no PPS DTCs are set.
- If the PPS has any current or history DTCs stored, refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .
- Verify that the correct PPS was installed into the vehicle.
- If the wrong PPS was installed then replace with the correct PPS.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at PPS module.
- Ignition OFF, test for less than 1.0 ohm between the ground circuit terminal 5 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance.
- Ignition ON, engine ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition voltage circuit terminal 9 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PPS module.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the SDM.
- Test for less than 1.0 ohm along the occupant sensor serial data circuit terminal 18 to terminal 60.
- If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the SDM.
IMPORTANT:
When removing connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector.
