Special Tools RequiredΒ
- Universal Lifting Eyelet 07AAK-SNAA120
- Engine Support Hanger, A and Reds AAR-T1256*
*Available through the Honda Tool and Equipment Program 888-424-6857
NOTE:
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- A and Reds engine support hanger AAR-T1256 must be used with the side engine mount installed.
- Before removing the transmission, read the Service Precautions for the IMA System (see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS ).
- Turn the battery module switch OFF, and measure the voltage at the junction board terminals (see DISCONNECTING THE MOTOR POWER CABLE CONNECTOR FROM THE MOTOR STATOR ).
- Secure the hood in the vertical position.
- Do the 12 volt battery removal procedure, (see 12 VOLT BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION )
- Remove the battery tray and the battery base.
- Remove the windshield wiper arms (see WIPER ARM REPLACEMENT ).
- Remove the cowl cover and the under-cowl panel (see COWL COVER REPLACEMENT ).
- Remove the air cleaner (see AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
- Remove the under-hood fuse/relay box bracket, PCM, and PCM bracket.
- Disconnect the IMA motor power cable connector and harness clamp.
- Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.
- Remove the splash shield (A) (see SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT ).
- Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the CVT fluid (CVTF).
- Reinstall the drain plug and a new sealing washer (B).NOTE: Remove metal dust from the magnetic surface of the drain plug.
- Remove the harness holder (A) from its bracket (B).
- Remove the bolt securing the heater hose bracket (A) on the starter (B).
- Remove the harness clamp (C) from its bracket (D), disconnect the starter cables (E), and remove the starter.
- Disconnect the solenoid harness connector (A) and the CVT input shaft (drive pulley) speed sensor connector (B).
- Disconnect the CVTF cooler hoses (A) from the radiator, then plug the CVTF cooler hoses and the lines.
- Remove the harness clamp bracket (A).
- Remove the snap pin (B) and the control pin (C) from the selector control lever (D).
- Remove the bolts securing the shift cable bracket (E), then separate the shift cable (F) from the selector control lever. Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
- Disconnect the transmission range switch connector (A).
- Disconnect the CVT output shaft (driven pulley) speed sensor connector (B), and the vehicle speed sensor connector (C).
- Remove the drive plate bolts (six) at the opening of the starter while rotating the engine crankshaft pulley.
- Remove the purge hose (A).
- Install the universal lifting eyelet (07AAK-SNAA120) to the air cleaner bracket hole (B) with a bolt (C) and a nut (D).
- Remove the harness clamp (A) from its clamp bracket (B) located in front of the left damper top.
- Set up the engine support hanger, A and Reds (AAR-T1256). Carefully position the engine support hanger to the vehicle; position both cross-arm foot bases (C) over the harness clamp brackets on both sides, and position both front stands on the front bulkhead. Attach the hook to the hanger plate, tighten the wing nut by hand, and lift and support the engine.NOTE: Be careful when working around the windshield.
