- Install a new pitman shaft seal. Refer to Steering Gear Pitman Shaft Seal and Bearing Replacement - Off VehicleΒ .
- Wipe the steering gear housing openings clean.
- Install a new steering gear pitman shaft housing cover O-ring (4) to the pitman shaft.
- Install the steering gear pitman shaft housing cover (3).
- Install the steering gear pitman shaft housing cover bolts (1) and tighten to 62 N.m (46 lb ft).
- Install the pitman shaft boot seal to the pitman shaft and steering gear housing (4).
- Install the pitman arm (3) on the pitman shaft using the alignment marks made during removal.
- Install the pitman arm washer (2).
- Install the pitman arm nut (1) and tighten to 250 N.m (184 lb ft).
- If necessary adjust the steering gear pitman shaft over-center preload. Refer to Steering Gear Pitman Shaft Over-Center Preload Adjustment - Off VehicleΒ .
- Install the steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement (Recirculating Ball Without LMM)Β , Steering Gear Replacement (HP2)Β , Steering Gear Replacement (Hydraulic Rack and Pinion)Β .
