WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2011 GMC Yukon XL, 2011 GMC Yukon, 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2011 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Liftgate Handle Switch Malfunction
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the liftgate handle switch.
- Test for less than 1 Ξ© between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Liftgate Handle Sw. parameter is Inactive.
- If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal A for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
- Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and the ground circuit terminal B. Verify the scan tool Liftgate Handle Sw. parameter is Active.
- If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the liftgate handle switch.
Liftgate Latch Malfunction
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the liftgate latch assembly.
- Test for less than 1 Ξ© between the ground circuit terminal 3 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Connect the harness connector at the liftgate latch assembly.
- Momentarily connect a 15 A fused jumper wire between the L/GATE RELSE fuse test point and B+, verify the liftgate latch assembly activates.
- If the liftgate latch assembly does not activate, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the liftgate latch assembly.
- If the liftgate latch assembly does not activate and the jumper wire fuse opens, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the liftgate latch assembly.
- Disconnect the X7 harness connector at the BCM.
- Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit terminal listed below and ground:
- Control circuit terminal 1
- Control circuit terminal 3
- If less than the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the underhood fuse block
- Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the control circuit terminal 3 and B+, momentarily connect a jumper wire between the control circuit terminal 1 and ground. Verify the liftgate latch assembly activates.
- If the liftgate latch does not activate, test either control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the underhood fuse block.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the BCM

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- β’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- β’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- β’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- β’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- β’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
