Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (4.3L Engine) , Starter Motor Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L Engines) , Starter Motor Replacement (8.1L Engine) or Starter Motor Replacement (6.6L (LLY) Engine) .
If equipped with a 4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.0L engine, remove the starter heat shield.

If equipped with a 8.1L engine, remove the starter heat shield bolts, and nut.
