Draining Procedure
To avoid being burned, do not remove the radiator cap or surge tank cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if radiator cap or surge tank cap is removed while the engine and radiator are still hot.
- Follow the steps below in order to remove the surge tank fill cap:
- Slowly rotate the cap counterclockwise.
- Stop rotating and allow the hissing to stop.
- After all the hissing stops, continue turning counterclockwise in order to remove the cap.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Place a drain pan under the generator control module coolant pump hose. Refer to Generator Control Module Coolant Pump Hose Replacement (Pump to Radiator)Β , Generator Control Module Coolant Pump Hose Replacement (Pump to Pump)Β .
- Using the J 38185Β hose clamp pliers, reposition the generator control module coolant pump hose clamp.
- Remove the generator control module coolant pump hose from the coolant pump.
- Drain the coolant.
- Place a drain pan under the generator control module coolant inlet hose. Refer to Generator Control Module Coolant Inlet Hose ReplacementΒ .
- Using the J 38185Β hose clamp pliers, reposition the generator control module coolant inlet hose clamp.
- Drain the coolant.
