Case Extension Housing: Removal

2008 Chevrolet Chevy Express G2500, Van Cargo, 6.6 6SECTION Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Support the vehicle with safety stands. Remove the right front drive axle. See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  2. Remove the wiring harness. Remove the bolts securing the front transaxle brace to the transaxle and right cylinder head. See TRANSAXLE BRACEΒ  .
  3. Remove the right transaxle to engine brace. Remove the vehicle speed sensor. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSORΒ  . Remove the ground wire from the case.
  4. Remove the following parts from the case extension:
    • Five 13-mm bolts (128 and 129).
    • One 15-mm stud (127).
  5. Remove the case extension (134) and the seal (126). See Fig 1 . Remove the roller thrust bearing (132) and the selective washer (133).
  6. Remove the 8-mm scavenge tube bolt (15). See Fig 2 . Remove the scavenge tube by prying on the differential. Remove the scavenge tube seal. See Fig 3 .
