Diagnostic Instructions
* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.
DTC Descriptor
DTC P1761
- Up and Down Shift Switch Signal Circuit
Circuit/System Description
This is an internal fault detection of the transmission control module (TCM). This fault is handled inside the TCM and no external circuits are involved. The TCM is part of the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly, and is not serviced separately.
Conditions for Running the DTC
* The engine is running.
* Ignition voltage is 8-18 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly has detected a Driver Shift Control rolling count error for 8 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
DTC P1761 is a Type B DTC.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
DTC P1761 is a Type B DTC.
Diagnostic Aids
When attempting to set TCM internal DTCs, run the engine for at least 1 minute, and then shut the engine off for 30 seconds. Following this procedure will allow for a complete TCM shutdown. Program the TCM with the latest software version and retest the DTC to see if the DTC resets.
