Removal Procedure
2006 Chevrolet Suburban K2500, 6.0 USECTION Removal Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Open the hood.
- Place fender covers over both fenders.
- Raise the hood to the service position, perform the following:
- Remove the hood hinge bolts (1).
- Raise the hood until vertical.
- Install the hood hinge bolts until snug in the service position (2).
- Loosen the clamps at the throttle body and air cleaner.
- Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
- Disconnect the positive battery cable.
- Remove the ignition coils. Refer to Ignition Coil(s) Replacement in Engine Controls - 8.1L.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure in Engine Controls - 8.1L.
- Disconnect the fuel feed and return pipes (1, 2) from the fuel rail. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Metal Collar) in Engine Controls - 8.1L.
- Remove the air conditioning (A/C) compressor. Refer to Compressor Replacement (LR4, LM7, and LQ4) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
- Remove the radiator.
- Disconnect the throttle actuator control (TAC) module electrical connector (1).
- Remove the vacuum lines from the engine, as required.
- Remove the ground cable bolt at the engine block.
- Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (8.1L Engine) in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the engine electrical harness and tie out of the way.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle with safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (8.1L Engine) in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the hoses from the power steering pump.
- Remove the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement (6.0L and 8.1L Engines) in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (6.0L and 8.1L Engines) in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the torque converter bolts.
- Remove the bolts from the transmission to the engine. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L80-E.
- Remove the engine oil cooler lines from the engine block. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement (2WD) or Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement (4WD) in Engine Cooling.
