- Install the pitman arm to the power steering gear.
- Align the marks made at the removal on the pitman arm and the pitman arm shaft.CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install a new pitman arm washer and nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 250 N.m (184 lb ft).
- Remove the power steering gear from the vise.
- Install the power steering gear. Refer to POWER STEERING GEAR REPLACEMENT (NON-RACK AND PINION) or POWER STEERING GEAR REPLACEMENT (RACK AND PINION) .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Check the wheel alignment. Refer to Measuring Wheel Alignment in SPECIFICATIONS .
