WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Pontiac G5 and 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
It is recommended that Component Testing is performed before Circuit Testing when diagnosing wheel speed sensors.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
- Ignition ON, test for 0 volts between the low reference circuit terminals of the appropriate sensor listed below and ground.
- LF Sensor circuit terminal 8
- RF Sensor circuit terminal 6
- LR Sensor circuit terminal 2
- RR Sensor circuit terminal 12
- If not the specified value, test the low reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
- Test for 0 volts between the signal circuit terminals of the appropriate sensor listed below and ground.
- LF Sensor circuit terminal 9
- RF Sensor circuit terminal 5
- LR Sensor circuit terminal 3
- RR Sensor circuit terminal 11
- If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
- Ignition OFF, test for infinite resistance between the low reference terminals of the appropriate sensor listed below and ground.
- LF Sensor circuit terminal 8
- RF Sensor circuit terminal 6
- LR Sensor circuit terminal 2
- RR Sensor circuit terminal 12
- If not the specified value, test the low reference circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
- Test for infinite resistance between the following signal circuit terminals of the appropriate sensor listed below and ground.
- LF Sensor circuit terminal 9
- RF Sensor circuit terminal 5
- LR Sensor circuit terminal 3
- RR Sensor circuit terminal 11
- If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
- Test for 850-1350 ohms between the wheel speed sensor circuit terminals of the appropriate sensor listed below.
- LF Sensor circuit terminals 8 and 9
- RF Sensor circuit terminals 5 and 6
- LR Sensor circuit terminals 2 and 3
- RR Sensor circuit terminals 11 and 12
- If not within the specified range, test the low reference and signal circuits for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the wheel speed sensor.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the EBCM.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- β’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- β’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- β’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- β’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- β’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
