Camshaft Position Sensor

2006 Chevrolet Chevy Express G2500, Van Cargo, 6.6 2SECTION Camshaft Position Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Sierra and 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is a hall-effect sensor located in the ignition distributor base and uses the same type of circuits as the CKP sensor. See Fig 1 . The CMP sensor signal is a digital ON/OFF pulse, output once per revolution of the camshaft. The CMP sensor information is used by the PCM to determine the position of the valve train relative to the CKP. If PCM does not detect the CMP signal while the engine is running, a DTC will set. To diagnose, see SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 4.3L SIERRA & SILVERADO article.
