Removal Procedure

2006 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado 2D Pickup, 8.1 G, 4WD, AutomaticSECTION Removal Procedure
CAUTION: Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT CAUTION in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery)Β  or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Auxiliary Battery)Β .
  2. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.6L (LLY).
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 6.6L (LLY).
  4. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (w/RPO HP2) or Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (Automatic Transmission - Diesel) or Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (Manual Transmission - Diesel) or Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (Automatic Transmission - Gasoline) or Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (Manual Transmission - Gasoline) in Engine Cooling.
  5. Remove the electrical harness clip bolts.

  7. Disconnect the generator electrical connector (1).

  9. Remove the positive battery cable from the generator, perform the following:
    1. Slide the boot (3) down to access the terminal stud.
    2. Remove the positive cable nut (2).
    3. Remove the positive cable.

  11. Remove the drive belt tensioner bolt.

  13. Remove the generator mounting bracket bolts.
  14. Remove the generator mounting bracket.
  15. If necessary, remove the idler pulleys.
