Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Removal Procedure
Head restraints are the double-post type that are adjustable up or down. Only the solid-type head restraints have serviceable trim covers.
Removal of the head restraints can be accomplished by using the J 42372Β or by fabricating a similar tool. The rear seat head restraint has only 1 locking post. Only one special tool or fabricated tool is necessary for the removal of the head restraint.
- Raise the head restraint to a full up position.
- Push the head restraint down just far enough in order to center the locking clip (4) in the guide between the detents on the posts (3).
- Insert the J 42372Β down the detent side of the post (3).
- Hold the tool down, and at the same time, lift the head restraint upward in order to disengage the detent (3) from the guide (4).
- Lift the restraint out.
