Installation Procedure

- Install the lower fan shroud to the vehicle.CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the retaining bolts to the lower fan shroud.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 8 N.m (71 in lbs).
- Install the fan and the clutch to the engine. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .
- Install the upper fan shroud to the lower fan shroud.
- Install the upper to lower fan shroud retaining bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 8 N.m (71 in lbs).
- Install the upper fan shroud retaining bolts to the top of the radiator.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 8 N.m (71 in lbs).
- If equipped with 4.3L, 5.0L, and 5.7L, reseal the engine upper to lower oil level indicator tube.
- Apply RTV sealant GM P/N 12346286 or equivalent to the top end of the oil level indicator tube at the joint.
- Install the top half of the tube into the lower half of the oil level indicator tube.
- Install the bolt retaining the oil level indicator tube and the transmission fluid fill tube to the oil fill tube lower support.
Tighten
Tighten the tubes lower support bolt to 4 N.m (44 in lbs).
- Install the screw holding the oil fill tube to the oil fill tube lower support.
- Install the coolant reservoir or surge tank. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement or Surge Tank Replacement .
- Install the air intake duct from the throttle body.
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
