2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer 4.2 S, 4WDSECTION Installation Procedure

  1. Install the fan to the clutch.
    CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  2. Install the retaining bolts to the fan and clutch.

    Tighten 

    • Tighten the 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, and the 8.1L fan to clutch bolts to 33 N.m (24 ft lbs).
    • Tighten the 6.5L diesel fan to clutch bolts to 17 N.m (13 ft lbs).

  3. Install the fan and clutch on the 4.3L, 5.0, 5.7L, and the 8.1L using the J 41240  .

    Tighten 

    Tighten the fan clutch nut to 57 N.m (42 ft lbs).

  4. Install the fan and clutch on the 6.5L using the J 41240-5A  and J 41240  .

    Tighten 

    Tighten the fan clutch nut to 57 N.m (42 ft lbs).

  5. Install the upper radiator shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
  6. Install the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement  or Surge Tank Replacement .
  7. Install the air cleaner and the duct.
