Shift Select Cable: Installation
2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer 4.2 S, 4WDSECTION Installation

- Install the shift select cable into the bulkhead from the passenger compartment side. Install the select cable grommet retaining bolts. See Fig 1 . Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Install the shift select cable into the bracket. See Figure .
- Install the shift select cable bracket and the 2 retaining nuts. See Figure . Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the shift select cable to the cable support bracket. See Figure .
- Install the shift cable into the transaxle bracket, then install the retaining clip.
- Connect the shift select cable to the transaxle, then secure the shift select cable with one lock washer and nut. Tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the front heat shield on the vehicle. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Use the following procedures to install the front exhaust pipe assembly:
- Install the front pipe to the vehicle. See Figure .
- Install the front pipe to the front pipe hanger (2).
- Install the 2 springs and the 2 bolts to the front pipe to the TWC exhaust pipe. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the 2 springs and the 2 bolts to the exhaust manifold. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . See Figure .
- Install the floor panel brace. Tighten nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the inflatable restraint SDM in the vehicle. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
- Install the manual shift lever in the vehicle. See MANUAL SELECTOR .
- Connect the HO2S electrical connector. See appropriate REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Use the following procedures to install the air cleaner assembly:
- Install the air cleaner element into lower air cleaner assembly. See Figure .
- Lower air cleaner cover (2) onto the air cleaner lower assembly.
- Secure the air cleaner cover (2) with the two retaining clips (3).
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- With the ignition switch in the LOCK position and the manual selector in the Park position, attempt to manually push the vehicle. Vehicle should not move.
- Verify that the vehicle CANNOT be driven in the Neutral position.
- Verify that the vehicle can be driven in "D", "2" and "L".
- Verify that reverse gear DOES operate in "R".
