  1. Turn ignition off. Remove EVAP canister purge solenoid. See EVAP CANISTER PURGE SOLENOIDΒ . Lightly tap the EVAP canister purge solenoid on a clean, hard surface. Inspect for carbon particles exiting either of the vacuum ports. If no carbon particles are found, reinstall EVAP canister purge solenoid and perform CLEANING PROCEDUREΒ .
  2. If carbon particles are found during the inspection procedure, replace EVAP canister purge solenoid and perform CLEANING PROCEDUREΒ . If you were instructed to replace the EVAP canister purge solenoid, and no carbon particles are found, return to the EVAP diagnostic procedure. DO NOT perform the CLEANING PROCEDUREΒ .
